Preparing for a Hurricane in the Cuero Area

TV and Radio:

  • Weather Radio (Weather radios may be purchased at most local retailers where consumer electronics are sold)

2. Gather Supplies

Gather and keep the following supplies and necessities on hand:

  • Flashlights with batteries
  • Battery-operated radio
  • Legal documents
  • Bottled water
  • Canned and non-perishable food items
  • Manual can opener
  • Paper plates and plastic utensils
  • Medications
  • Personal hygiene items
  • Phone numbers of physicians, family and friends
  • Extra eyeglasses, hearing aids, etc.

3. Secure Property

  • As a hurricane approaches, secure all loose items on your property, in the yard and on sidewalks.
  • Tie down or move light-weight items indoors if possible.

4. Be Prepared to Evacuate

  • Cuero is an evacuation route (see map link below). In the event of an evacuation order, traffic will continue to increase as coastal residents evacuate.
  • Consider evacuation early. Make your transportation arrangements now for evacuation, if it becomes necessary.
  • If you know of neighbors and friends who need transportation assistance, please provide them with transportation if at all possible.
  • Don't forget to make suitable arrangements for pets – please bear in mind that not all shelters take animals.
