Under the direction of Harvey L. Mauldin the Animal Control Officer,
Chester Kitchens, operates the
Animal Control Shelter
which is located between the Airport and Surface Burial at 315 E. Broadway.
Hours of operation for the Shelter are Monday through Friday 8 A.M. to 5 P.M.
Please call the number above for appointment as the Animal Control Officer may
be out on a call.
Impounded animals will be held for a five (5) day period, unless claimed by
owner (proper documentation of ownership must be shown) before disposition of
animal according to City Ordinance.
Before release to proper owner, proof of current vaccinations must be
presented. Owner is responsible for any and allmedical expenses incurred during
pet's stay at the shelter plus any other fees that apply. (See Below)
Pet Adoptions

Before you can adopt a pet dog or cat, you must agree to:
- Abide by City and State of Texas ordinances and laws that govern pet
ownership
- Be able to provide food, shelter and medical care for your pet.
- Have a permanent residential address.
- Have pets vaccinated upon receipt from shelter.
- Keep vaccinations up to date.
- Agree to allow the Animal control Officer access to periodically check up
on an adopted pet.

Livestock
It is unlawful to keep or harbor livestock within the city limits without first obtaining a permit.
Application for permits are available at the City Administration Office
located at 212 E. Main across the street from the Library.
Bites
All bites are to be reported immediately to the Animal Control Officer and the local
Health Office.
Nuisance
Vicious, In Estrus ("Heat"), Odors, Noise
- Any animal known to be vicious is not allowed to run at large and must be
restrained.
- Any animal unspayed in the state of estrus (heat) is not allowed to run at
large and must be restrained.
- Any dog, cat or other animal which emits noxious or offensive odors or
noises which tend to disturb the peace are to be considered a nuisance and
shall be charged accordingly.
